Why I'm NOT watching tonights' debate

When kicking off a newsletter, maybe it’s not wise to start your posts off on topics like submitting to authority and ‘enduring sorrow while suffering unjustly’ (sorry not sorry..I dig 1 Peter! 😎👊). Or perhaps I can quickly alienate an audience who, unlike Piper and I, spends 3-5hrs per day streaming content (or, maybe you don’t…shout out in the comments!).

nice plug for me to say —— Try reading online!

Trent, you’re a hypocrite

Ok, funny enough, my father-in-law ordered these TVs to be delivered to our (his) condo THAT SAME EVENING I published ‘Why I Labor | Part 1’ 😂🤣😂

OKAYY, even worse, I DID set up one TV at Isabelle’s behest to tune in to the debate 😅

My original plan was certainly not to begin to cast judgement on your media consumption habits 😅. (I actually planned to dive deeper into theology of work)

But, there’s a relationship here between the time we spend recreationally and in reflection. The more we tune out the noise from the world, the more we can tune into to wisdom from God- which is ‘first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Idk about you, but that does not sound like the vibe of this debate..

What did we just celebrate, anyway?

Perhaps as you closed out this last work week, you realize that the Monday holiday for labor activism didn’t really affect your vocational outlook. And that may be normal, but maybe it’s because we too often are distracted by BBQs, football, and visions of the American Dream. What we see as American prosperity or corporate ascension should pale in comparison to the God-sized vision of work.

So how does God view our work?

And what is your response to that?

We’ll be discussing these in the next edition.

May the favor of the Lord our God be upon you, to establish the work of your hands,

Trent
